Picking, shelling and freezing peas

It's a summer ritual around here that goes back as far as I can remember, except back then we raised our own peas. This morning Peg and I left early to pick black-eyed peas in Wm. Dearman's pea patch. And even at 7 am, boy was it hot!

Later, Mom came and helped us shell them. Peg did the washing and blanching then I helped put them in bag for freezing. We had 15 8oz bags. They sure are good on cold winter night (with fresh cornbread).
